Five Markets In One Route

This tour names five markets, in a fixed walking order.

The Order on Foot

The route runs Kampa, then Old Town Square, then Havelská, then Wenceslas Square, then Republic Square. It is a single loop through the historic center: the river bank at Kampa and Cihelna Park, over Mánes Bridge to the Rudolfinum, through Josefov and Pařížská Street into the Old Town, and on to the New Town and Republic Square. No public transport is used, so you see how the five squares connect on foot.

Walking time between markets is not stated in the listing. The itinerary gives minutes at each stop instead, 10 to 20 minutes each, with the longest blocks at the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square markets at 20 minutes including free time and shopping.

When Each Market Is Open

Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square run 28 November to 6 January, daily 10:00 to 22:00, so this route works through to 6 January. Republic Square runs 25 November to 24 December. Kampa's last season ran 3 December to 4 January. Havel's Market trades year-round.

Plan around those dates. A departure in the last week of December loses Republic Square from the five. For a market-focused route in late December, the Prague Christmas Story Tour covers Old Town and New Town markets at $55 per person.

What the Price Covers

The listing at $178 per person lists five inclusions, and one optional extra carries a separate fee. The table below sets them out, with the paid-on-top items you should budget for at the stalls.

Included and Not Included

Included are the guided walking tour, visits to five Christmas markets, a local guide, photo opportunities at historic landmarks, and two Czech snacks and two traditional Christmas drinks as tastings. The listing marks the optional Ice Pub stop, an aperitif or cocktail with wine, champagne or whiskey tasting for about 20 minutes, as an extra fee, while the not-included line names the same Ice Pub stop. The two statements agree: the Ice Pub is optional and paid on top.

One Contradiction to Confirm

The listing is not fully consistent on total length. The listing gives the length as 2.5 to 3.5 hours by option, and the know-before-you-go note says approximately 2.5 up to 4 hours depending on option. The two differ by up to half an hour.

Confirm the length for your chosen option on the booking page before you plan the rest of your day.

Book It If, Skip It If

Book it if

  • you want five named Christmas markets covered on one private walk
  • a guide alone for your party, with pickup in Prague 1, suits you
  • two Czech snacks and two traditional Christmas drinks included justify the $178

Skip it if

Pros and Cons

An honest read of the listing, with the alternatives attached to every weakness.

What we genuinely like

  • Five named Christmas markets in one route
  • Two Czech snacks and two traditional Christmas drinks included at $178 per person
  • Private group with a local guide in Czech or English, and pickup in Prague 1
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure, with reserve now and pay later
  • Covers the main landmarks as well: Charles Bridge, the Rudolfinum, the Jewish Quarter and the Astronomical Clock

The honest downsides

  • Only 2 reviews back the 5.0 rating, so the track record is thin compared with 71 reviews on the small-group walk
  • The stated length varies from 2.5 to 3.5 hours, and the note says up to 4 hours, so confirm your option before booking
  • The Ice Pub stop is an extra fee, not part of the price
  • Food and drinks beyond the two included tastings are paid at the stalls yourself
  • Republic Square market closes 24 December, so late-season departures lose the final market

Who it's NOT for: If you want a private walk without tastings for less money, book the Private Prague Christmas Tour, or the small-group Prague Christmas Markets with Locals if you would rather have a proven group format.

Before You Go

Dates, money and tickets for the day of the walk, plus what the listing itself requires of you.

Dates That Matter

Republic Square, Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square are all open from 28 November to 24 December. After 24 December, Republic Square has closed for the season, and the tour ends at the Palladium instead. Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square keep trading until 6 January, daily 10:00-22:00.

Prague City Tourism publishes the full Christmas season information in late November each year, so confirm Kampa's dates there close to your travel day.

Money at the Stalls

The Czech Republic uses the Czech crown (CZK), not the euro. The organiser Taiko a.s. says most vendors accept cards, and an ATM stands inside the market otherwise. Bring some cash for small stalls.

Exchange rates move, and the Czech National Bank fixing gives 1 USD = 21.834 CZK.

Getting There on Your Own

The tour starts with pickup in Prague 1, so you may not need a ticket that day. For the rest of your stay, PID single tickets cost $1.65 (36 CZK) for 30 minutes in the app, $1.79 (39 CZK) on paper and $1.92 (42 CZK) by SMS. A 90-minute ticket is $2.11 (46 CZK) in the app, $2.29 (50 CZK) paper and $2.52 (55 CZK) SMS.

A 24-hour ticket is $6.41 (140 CZK) in the app and $6.87 (150 CZK) on paper or SMS. A 72-hour ticket is $15.57 (340 CZK) app and $16.03 (350 CZK) paper or SMS. Reduced fares for 30 and 90 minutes and 24 hours are $0.82 (18 CZK), $1.05 (23 CZK) and $3.21 (70 CZK) in the app.

What to Bring and Who Can Join

The listing asks for comfortable shoes, warm clothing and weather-appropriate clothing, since the whole tour is on foot through historic areas. No minimum age, difficulty level or wheelchair rule is stated, and no entry fees apply to the markets themselves because they stand on open public squares. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund.

Private Day Tour Or Multi-Day Christmas Market Package

Many people searching for this kind of trip are also looking at multi-day escorted packages. The two formats do different jobs.

What a Package Adds

A large package such as Go Ahead's 11-day Christmas markets trip covers Budapest, Vienna and Prague with 9 nights in hotels, 3 dinners, 9 breakfasts and 3 sightseeing tours. A package makes sense if you want three capital cities in one booking.

This private walk is a single-city product. There is no hotel, no coach and no flights in it. It gives you about 3 hours with one guide for your group alone, at $178 per person.

What a Private Walk Replaces

If you have already booked a Prague stay, a private walk slots in on top of it. You choose the starting time from what is offered, the guide is only for your party, and the two snacks and two Christmas drinks are included rather than bought at the stalls.

If you want private but cheaper, the Private Prague Christmas Tour runs 3 hours at $111.77 per person with no tastings included. For a small-group option with cookies and a hot drink, see the Prague Christmas Markets with Locals.

How the Tour Runs

The walk starts with pickup in Prague 1 and ends at Republic Square. No clock start time is fixed in the listing, so the times below are the minutes the itinerary gives for each part, not clock times.

Stop by Stop

After pickup you meet the guide at the John Lennon Wall, cross Lovers Bridge and see the historic wooden water mill. Kampa Island, called the Venice of Prague in the listing, brings a panoramic view of Charles Bridge and the Kampa Christmas Market. The route then passes Little Venice, Prague's narrowest street, the Franz Kafka Museum and Swan's Beach at Cihelna Park.

From Mánes Bridge you see the Rudolfinum Concert Hall, then walk the Jewish Quarter and Pařížská Street. The Old Town Square market is the main free-time stop, followed by Havelská Market for shopping, the Wenceslas Square market and finally the Republic Square market and Palladium. The Powder Tower sits on this stretch, and the optional Ice Pub stop comes near the end.

Pace and Surface

The walk is on foot through historic areas, so comfortable shoes are the listing's own advice. No hotel pickup beyond the Prague 1 start is described, and no return time is stated.

Which Christmas Markets You See

Five markets sit on this route. Their official dates differ, so the same walk can look different depending on the day you travel.

The Five on the Route

Kampa's Malostranské Vánoce na Kampě ran 3 December to 4 January last season, and the dates for this season are not confirmed. Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square both run 28 November to 6 January, daily 10:00-22:00, under organiser Taiko a.s. Havelská Market at Havel's Market is a year-round market, open Monday to Saturday 7:00-19:00 and Sunday 8:00-18:30, and it is the only surviving market in the historic center, trading since 1232. Republic Square runs 25 November to 24 December, with no hours published by the city.

That date spread matters. Check Kampa's dates for your day before you book. Book between Christmas and 6 January and Republic Square has closed, so the walk ends at the Palladium shopping center instead of a market.

What to Add Before or After

The walk skips Náměstí Míru in Vinohrady and Tylovo náměstí. Peace Square runs 20 November to 24 December, 10:00-20:00, in front of St Ludmila's Church, and sells ornaments, ceramic nativity scenes, wooden toys and mulled wine. Tylovo náměstí runs 26 November to 24 December. Both are easy to reach on your own after the tour ends at Republic Square.

If you want a market the day tours cover in depth, the Prague Christmas Market Tour is a 2-hour evening walk from $73 per person. The Prague Christmas Walk ends at the Kampa market for $28 per person.

Dates When A Market Is Closed

Several of Prague's markets end on 24 December, and that changes what this walk delivers late in the season.

What Closes on 24 December

Republic Square market runs 25 November to 24 December, so the final market stop of this tour disappears for departures after Christmas Eve. Peace Square (Náměstí Míru) runs 20 November to 24 December, 10:00 to 20:00, so a self-guided add-on after the walk closes that day too. Tylovo náměstí also ends 24 December.

Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square and Havelská continue, which is why the walk still works between Christmas and 6 January. Kampa's last season ran to 4 January, but this season's dates are not confirmed.

Plan the Route Around Your Date

Travelling before 24 December keeps Republic Square open, so the walk finishes on a market square, subject to Kampa's dates. Travelling between 25 December and 6 January gives you at most four markets and a shopping-center finish. Neither is wrong, but tell any companions which version they are booking.

If your dates fall after Christmas Eve and the Republic Square finish matters, ask before booking or pick a route built around the two long-running markets. The homepage section on the markets after Christmas Eve lists what stays open.
